Sam Adams, Starbucks and Homemade Pumpkin Pie’s Calorie Counts

Well tomorrow is Halloween. I usually don’t get excited about Halloween but this year being in a neighborhood with lots of young kids and young families, I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s costumes. Our neighbors have so wonderfully invited us over to celebrate so I’m very excited to spend the night with them. Phin is so ready for his costume for the second time in a row..

Okay, down to business…I know I’ve done this before with iced coffee but you know my motto, the most important this is awareness.

Everyone loves pumpkin. I’m not sure why. Since I was very young, pumpkin was just not my cup of tea. I think it may have been about the texture…but I’ll leave it there.

For all of you pumpkin lovers,

From Illinois University, they say ,

The bright orange color of pumpkin is a dead giveaway that pumpkin is loaded with an important antioxidant, beta-carotene. Beta-carotene is one of the plant carotenoids converted to vitamin A in the body. In the conversion to vitamin A, beta carotene performs many important functions in overall health.

Current research indicates that a diet rich in foods containing beta-carotene may reduce the risk of developing certain types of cancer and offers protect against heart disease. Beta-carotene offers protection against other diseases as well as some degenerative aspects of aging.

Hm…maybe I should get to liking Pumpkin after all…

I do love that everyone gets excited about pumpkin products. It’s something that only comes once a year so why not love it? (Ahem..the VMA’s people.) Like I said..awareness is important. Happy Pumpkin 🙂
