Happy Monday, said no one. 🙂
But everyone..Memorial Day is coming!! Keep that in your plans.
Now that I’m in the app world, I have been particularly aware of new apps on the rise. Friends have been making fun of me for the enormous amount of notifications I receive throughout the day on my phone. It is… all for testing!
(Note- the following post is not a paid advertisement, this is my own review!)
I’ve found a free app that is actually pretty good to have (since we are on our phones all day long anyway). With new medical research, professionals have stated that we need to walk 10,000 steps per day (in ADDITION to daily exercise). Now…if you are like me (and there are millions of us out there), your work is associated at a computer all. day. long.
I’ve tried a few things, like calendar invites and even incentive based walking programs but nothing has worked. I’m still on the hunt however, Moves is definitely a good reminder of how many steps we SHOULD be taking from what we ARE taking. Moves is an iPhone (Android coming soon) app which runs in the background, tracking your steps throughout your day. Additionally, it’s like a diary of your day too! It tracks cycling, running and walking.
The simple part- it’s free and is quietly measuring with a few reminders at night to get your steps in.
Here’s the caveat to this app:
- You have to have it on you all the time- It’s not accurate for the only part that I do not cary my phone with my constantly. For example, walking Phin (I’ll forget it), moving from the office kitchen to my office (I’ll forget it)..but it’s a pretty good estimate and REMINDER we need to move!
- Strength workouts are not included- whether you are lifting or moving slightly, it will not record. Again, see number one for the reminder tip.
- The benefits outlay the caveats for sure. I love getting my notifications every day showing my progress. I even took a longer walk with Phin yesterday just to get some more steps in.
- The best part is that it’s free and runs in the background of your phone, therefore the battery loss is not as significant. Your phone will lose more battery than normal after installing the app, but that is with any app.
All in all, it never hurts to try it! Just make sure to choose push notifications, it’s the reminder that counts!
